To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining, in the days of our children, the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed. ~Theodore Roosevelt

You know, when the power goes off at night, you get a sudden appreciation for the term pitch-dark. And so our power went out again—something like the 6th time in a month. Fortunately, my house is small and I’ve lived here long enough to nearly know the exact number of steps required to get from here to there. Which is handy when I can’t see my hand in front of my face. What I’d like to know, however, is why the power keeps going off. Human error at least twice, but who knows about the other times. It’s getting pretty annoying and it’s not doing my appliances any good, either.
On the bright side, I went outside and got a really good look at the Milky Way for the first time in years. I assume the entire town must have been blacked out. There was no light pollution in the area.
