It’s a win-win situation for them, isn’t it? Either they get the bill passed or they get to blame the Dems for shutting the gov’t down. And then they get the bill pased. One way or the other. They will. It’s only a matter of time.
Let me preface by saying I agree… And I do not believe a fetus’ life is more worth saving than the pregnant woman’s (unless she so chooses it that way).
However…
What these idiots fail to consider is that abortion isn’t going to go away whether legal or illegal. The only difference will be the safety to the woman.
This is not a viable argument against the religious population against abortion.
The reason being, their comeback argument would be that murder hasn’t gone away by making it illegal.
It’s not that most of them are stupid, or even misinformed…
They don’t fail to consider the safety of women. They don’t care about that, so long as no fetuses are lost by abortion, because they think it’s the same as murder.
And yeah, the deeply entrenched belief many of them seem to have is that a mother who would murder her own “child” does not deserve to live, and doesn’t deserve any safety.
There’s no arguing with these people on that count. So there’s no case to be made there, unfortunately.
The only thing one can do is either prove consciousness or soul or whatever doesn’t develop until birth or whatever…
Or, argue to maintain that the belief abortion is murder is a religious belief, and therefore is covered by the seperation of church & state.
However, many of these same people don’t believe in seperation of church & state either.
So it’s a two-fold battle.
I could see if a doctor chooses not to preform abortions, but I don’t agree with insurance companies not having to include them in the policies. Did that make sence lol?
Jennifer, I think there’s a move afoot in Congress (guess which side) to disallow insurers in the Federal Health Insurance programs from offering reimbursements for contraception (pills, IUDs, etc.) There’s very little the zealots won’t try. (But just try to take away the payments for Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis).
But you know, Chloe, that no argument is going to sway these people. I’ve had enough discussions/arguments/pitched battles with them enough to understand that. Life begins when at conception and that’s all there is to it. And the Constitution does not explicity say anything about the separation of Church and State. Legislating according to their religious principles/tenets does not constitute the creation of a state religion. Everyone is free to worship the way they please. But we are a Christian nation, founded on Christian principles.
And outlawing abortion will save innocent lives and they’ll maybe lift a finger to try to provide help for pregnant girls with an eye toward making these saved babies adoptable. Maybe. But in the main, if abortion isn’t legal, fewer people will have unprotected sex and there will be fewer pregnancies and the skies will be blue and the birds will chirp and everyone will live happily ever after.
Except, it won’t work that way and they really don’t care as long as abortions are finally made illegal.
And after that, they’ll go after birth control because that’s a form of abortion, too. And already pharmacists are able to refuse to dispense birth control if it goes against their conscience or religion.
It’ll never end.
Or wait until guys start getting hammered with paternity suits.
LOL Linkmeister, on the viagra part.

Compassionate conservativism, huh? They’re not fools, though; this is wedge politics at its worst. If the Democrats manage to block or stall, they can shut the government down just as Clinton forced Gingrich to do, and it hurts their image just as it hurt Gingrich and his crowd.
