The Veep Debate

Dick “I never claimed there was a link between Saddam and al Qaeda’ Cheney is a masterful liar. A very convincing one. The debate was probably a draw. Cheney and Edwards both got their whacks in, but I don’t think either would have convinced anyone, either way. Cheney seemed a little detached. Edwards got flustered a few times. With good reason, but still.

Cheney is the sort of person who’s idea of the truth is whatever is politically expedient at the precise moment the words come out of his mouth. As for raising rosy hopes of what we can accomplish in Iraq, pointing to El Salvador’s ‘success in creating democracy’ is disgusting. What an oily snake Cheney is. If El Salvador is the model, then this is what Iraqis can look forward to. And that’s a sugar-coated version.

You know, I heard that “El Salvador” line and I immediately thought “any Administration which re-hired Poindexter, Negroponte and Abrams probably shouldn’t mention that country’s name.”

Funny thing that Negroponte is now the ambassador in Iraq—the guy who doesn’t let a few human rights abuses and death squads upset his digestion. Just business as usual. Probably doesn’t upset Cheney’s digestion, either, which makes it easy for him to see a resounding success in El Salvador on which to pattern Iraq. What awful, warped people they are.
