Our April showers apparently intend to move in and stay for a while. It has been drippy and damp for the better part of the week. The next several days’ forecasts have rain as the centerpiece, too. Although we haven’t been threatened with floods (or been flooded) like other parts of the country—yet—I’m sure we feel pretty much the same way about incessant rain. This has been an unusual spring. At least in my yard. Despite all the rain, we have somehow managed to by-pass mud season, which is almost a guaranteed season. So that’s something to be happy about. I don’t know why things aren’t a muddy mess, but they aren’t, and I’ll take it, thank you.

Still, could we save some of the rain for later? We might need it later. It is not necessary to dump it on us all at once. Really, it isn’t.

Sick, but...

drizzle

That spring head cold turned into a full blown chest cold with the fever and coughing and the foghorn effect. My hair even hurts. I think this is the worst of it. Tomorrow will be better. It runs against my grain, but I finally admitted defeat and crawled under my blankets a couple of hours ago. A friend stopped by a little while ago and left a large container of homemade chicken soup, crackers, and a bottle of Nyquil on my doorstep. I am a lucky person.

So, while I’m huddled under my blankets, slurping chicken soup, I thought it might be time to do a little shopping online. You know, maybe just a little treat to cheer me up. I haven’t really been keeping up my end of the consumerist bargain lately, so maybe just a little something.

A white fountain pen.

Now, admittedly, it’s not a fancy one. It doesn’t even have a gold nib. And it’s certainly not in the same league as this one, which I look at at least once a month to drool.

But, you know, I think the more humble model will do just fine.

So, despite my hair and fingernails hurting, there is fountain pen joy in my heart. It will be here in a couple of days.
