All my best for a great New Year’s Eve and here’s to a better 2005 in every way. Well, we would all like to see something improve someplace, I imagine. So...here’s to it!!

Now, ambling off to a low-key gathering of food, libation, and movies. Bring your own teenager required. We’ll have fun. Hope you do, too!

Miss Abbie, who does not like
having her picture taken. She
did pretty well with this, though
it took 17 tries to get just these
three without any kitty blur.

Forgetful

It was one of those lazy vacation days, except I was thoroughly engrossed in doing something else that made hours melt into seconds. Around 6:00 PM, my head was pounding and moving my eyes even hurt. Thought maybe it was the heralding of flu season and I began to get a little worried. And then I remembered. Not one drop of coffee passed my lips today. Nary a one. I just forgot.

It took about a half a cup for the headache to subside. With the rest of the cup, it has ceased altogether. Now, of course, I’ll be good and vivacious heading into the night time hours. But it’s vacation and the lad has arranged for transport to practice in the morning, which means—I don’t hafta worry about getting up at the crack of dawn. Oooh, I’m awash with ideas for spending my new found hours.

The other thing I remembered this evening...it was trash day and I forgot that, too. Not sure how I could forget— the entire neighborhood had trash piled up by the side of the road, I had a note stuck to the front door, and another one on the bathroom mirror. Must have been terribly inconspicuous notes. The lad claims he never saw them, either. Another week of tripping over boxes and bags of wrapping paper and other holiday detritus. Bah.

Will be otherwise engaged in upgrading N’s blog to ExpressionEngine today and for however long it takes for me to break things several times. He’s a trusting soul, isn’t he?

Thief

For the third time this month, Terry has stolen the brush I use to scrub pots and pans. It is a natural bristle brush attached to a wooden handle. Or it was. This time she pried open the cabinet door beneath the sink to get it. Once again, there are clumps of bristles all over the kitchen floor and a half chewed stick to which the bristles were once attached. Despite her guilty face, I don’t think she’d hesitate to do it again. I suppose I’ll have to start storing the scrub brushes inside the dishwasher. I’m almost certain she won’t be able to figure out how to get into that.

Driveways are for looks

Another one of those mysteries is why the people across the street refuse to park their vehicles in their driveway during the winter. The street out front is about half its usual size. The snow plow isn’t interested in doing much beyond making sure the street is passable. Plowing it to its normal width isn’t in the cards.

So when the people across the street park in the street, right behind my driveway, I have a hard time getting out and getting back in. I had to execute several three point turns just to get back into my driveway this afternoon. They give me about 4 feet of clearance between the end of my driveway and whichever SUV is parked out there. While their driveway sits empty. I do not understand it.

I’ve asked a couple of times if they could leave me some room. Their solution is to move the vehicle about 6 inches. They say that it’s convenient for them to park there so that they don’t have to engage in jockeying cars around. Well, heck, why not. Make it a pain in the neck for everyone else instead. It’s basically a one lane street now, and with their monster parked out there, it’s hard enough to get around them just driving straight down the street. Many days they both park their huge vehicles out in the street. While their driveway sits empty. And so it will go until spring.
