Well, for something a little different…

I’m talking American Idol. We’ve been TiVoing it each week and catch up with it sometime during the week. We finally watched both of this week’s shows last night. I’ve been hooked on the show this year. Not having a Fantasia to wow and dazzle every week, the field seemed to be wide open. Lots of potential displayed, but no one aside from Bo or Nadia, and sometimes Anwar have set off sparks for me. And those have been weak sparks, most of the time. Well...Bo did wow me with his Allman Brothers selection. And I like his style. But still.

Tuesday night’s program...was awful. The new and larger stage set, larger sound and bigger band did nothing to showcase anyone’s talent. Almost all of them sounded and looked diminished by the larger surroundings.

I’ll continue to TiVo the show and fast forward through most of them, stopping only for the actual singing. Probably will continue to skip past Anthony. Tempted to skip past Constantine. I’ve probably underestimated Scott, so I’ll pay closer attention. Can’t make up my mind about Carrie. She has her moments and when she does, she’s impressive. But then she follows impressive with bland. It’ll be more interesting when the field is narrowed.

I’d like to see the final six composed of Bo, Nadia, Scott, Jessica, Anwar, and Carrie.

Mainly, I’m disappointed this year. So far. But I still watch the darned thing. I like watching talented young people doing their best to achieve their dreams. That’s the fun part.
