The phone guy left a little while ago. I’m happy to say that the problem was in the wiring outside the house so the visit and repairs cost me nothing. Evidently the outside wiring fell victim to this summer’s excessively wet weather. I’m all rewired and good to go.
While the repairman was here, I had the Boston NPR station on in the kitchen. He listened for a moment, cocked his head and asked, “NPR?” I nodded. Then he asked, almost timidly, “Democrat?” I nodded.
“YESS!” he shouted. Gave me two thumbs up and almost did a little jig in the middle of my kitchen floor. “I have to be careful how I ask that question,” he said.
I wondered if he tries to do a little campaigning on Kerry’s behalf while he’s out and about. He said that yeah, he tries a little bit. He tests the waters and tries to get in a few good words. Some people are more open to conversation than others.
“I’m getting good at telling who the Democrats are though,” he said. “Democrats look different than Republicans. I can’t tell you what it is, but there’s something different.”
I also learned that he’s a loyal Atrios reader.
I think that was the most pleasant service call I’ve ever had.
