A little concerned

Once more this household rolled out at an unconscionably early hour, for a Saturday, to get the lad off to a x-country meet. The state comps. It will be a cold day in Boston. He packed his gear plus a couple of blankets because, invariably, someone on the team shows up without a warm jacket and they half freeze while standing around. I think this is really, really, really the last race of the year.
For some reason, he decided to ride with the girl’s team captain instead of taking the bus and they’re lost already. He called asking me to look up directions while she was in the background sobbing. Getting lost in Boston is pretty panic inducing if you’re not used to it. I’m glad he rode with her today. They have to go to Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain and that’s not exactly the best part of Boston to get lost in. As the lad said, “We’re not in a good place. There are No Gun Zone signs on the sides of the street and they have bullet holes in them.” Mapquest to the rescue. I think they will be okay now—I got them turned around and she recognized the landmarks toward the end and felt her confidence return. At least they have the cell phone and can call if they need more help. I think (hope) they’ll be fine now.
Meanwhile, back on the ranch...the fur kids are fed and napping. I’ve brought in a load of wood, the coffee is made, and the wood stove is stoked. It’s another frosty morning, in the upper 20s when we left the house earlier. It felt good to walk back into a cozy warm house.
