light rain

OK, while I have been AWOL from Cider Press Hill, I have been busy!!  I got hooked on Facebook and tend to do all my ranting and raving there.  Don’t believe me??  Just ask Linkmeister as he knows!!

There is going to be a ‘by the people, for the people’ type Enough is Enough Rally on October 29 in Washington, DC and I will be there!!

Last time I did anything on this scale (and I am assuming this will turn into a large scale event--at least I surely hope so), was back in the 60’s when we marched against Viet Nam........never ever against our soldiers and veterans, but against the war.  And that is a story for another day!!

However, I am one of thousands of “Coffee Party Members” and to that end, they and a few other organizations have decided there will be a People’s Rally on the 29th.  I decided we would go and combine it with a visit with our older son and his girlfriend....nothing like inviting yourselves to someones’ house and saying BTW, we are participating in a March/Rally on the 29th!!  But they know me and love me in spite of my decisions!!  And my husband is on board for this one as well.

I was asked, as many others are being asked, to write a blog piece for the event and I just did.  I wish I had Kate’s way with words, but below is exactly what I sent.  Not sure where it goes from here, but somewhere I am sure. (Circular file??)

Why am I coming to the Rally on October 29???...........I wish I had some incredibly intellectual answer or could say a lightbulb (a real lightbulb) went off in my head, but it is simply a response to everything that has been happening in our world; it’s the right thing to do and the place we need to be.

I am but one of the thousands, millions, more likely, long considered the ‘silent majority’.  We hate what is going on, are dismayed by the machinations of the people who have been elected to serve the people, yet we continue to sit silently by while they destroy everything past generations believed in and worked so hard for. It is no longer enough to just rant to your friends, to tweet or sound off on Facebook.  I think we need to be there, be seen and be heard.  Perhaps by standing up and speaking out, more and more will follow suit.  It is time to drown out the rhetoric of those who would have you believe they speak for us and, in fact, only speak to their own lives and their own wallets and the people who continue to line those wallets.

The time to be silent is long gone.  When I listen to elected officials, who were elected by the people to serve the people openly admit their main goal, their only goal is to defeat President Obama in 2012, you know something is dreadfully wrong.  Really?  Defeat our President??  What about the thousands of children in this country who go to bed hungry and get up hungry each day.  what about the people who cannot get (and if the tea party has their way, will never get) medical insurance?  Did they forget about the people who are unemployed, who have been for 2 years or more and probably have little or no hope of finding employment that will allow them to provide for their families and live with dignity.  Many Republicans don’t care.  I care. We should all care.

Democrats are far from perfect, we have bad apples too; however, this current crop of ignorant Republicans, particularly the tea party members, campaigned on JOBS.  They were going to be the party that set the country back on the right track.  Well, what they neglected to say was the track was a track for the top 2% to more wealth, a track for the ultra rich, many of whom have never done an honest day’s work in their life. Their wealth?  Garnered on the backs of the rest of us.  Oh wait, they are not the ultra rich, they are the ‘job creators’...and if you believe that one, then you deserve to have someone like Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin or, better yet just throw all their names in a hat and pick one, running the country.

They have turned our political processes into a joke and I am fed up.  We need solutions, not rhetoric, We need people to come together for the good of this nation, not for the good of corporations (who, by the way are not people) and we need these politicians to remember why they were elected.  It is time to take back our country from the fat cats, the special interest groups and work together to build our country back to what it can and should be.

I have so much more to say, but I think this is enough for the moment.  We have to start someplace and this is the place.  I can only hope and pray we have not put it off too long.

And now, they emailed to say that since they are going to make this an open mike event (with hopefully Dylan Ratigan, Jon Stewart and others) for the ‘people’, would I consider speaking… Oh.My.God.  Just what they/I need.............Send me your thoughts so if I do, I can speak for ‘my’ people!! ;)

So stay tuned, this ride could turn into an interesting one!!

Well, doesn't this just put the frosting on the cake....

According to the Minnesota Planetarium Society, here is where the real signs of the Zodiac should fall.  Get ready for your world to change forever!! I wonder what Nancy Reagan will have to say about this!!

Let’s see, a few days ago I thought my birth sign was Sagittarius (Nov. 24) as was my husband (Dec. 14) - trust me, I did not think that through very well some 40 years ago.  LOL Our sons were both Capricorns (Dec. 22 and Dec. 27).  Now I am a Scorpio - SCORPIO?  You have got to be kidding.  Joe is something I cannot pronounce and sounds dirty, but isn’t.  It means something like snake slayer which could not be further from the truth and our sons are now under the sign of Sagittarius.  Go figure!!

Whether you go along with it or not remains to be seen but it will make for some interesting conversations for the next few days or weeks and that is always good!  As for me, I read my horoscope a few times a week in several different places, choose the one I like best or none of them if they all are uninteresting.  So I guess you could say I am not really terribly sincere about it all.

Oooh scary

clear night

I just realized I have not posted anything since the 11th or 12th of July and here it is already the 30th.  Kate, you won’t fire me will you??

So, what is happening?  I have a new hero, Anthony Weiner...check out this video of a speech he made yesterday, It’s Republicans wrapping their arms around Republicans--super speech, worth the time to listen to the whole thing if you can find it.  He was mad and it showed and I wish sometimes, as much as I like Obama, he would let loose on some of these incessant no to everything types the same way.  I think people would begin to pay attention and understand more of the BS that is going on.  Hell, didn’t you pay attention when your parents raised their voices and let you have it good?  I know I sure did.  My kids, not so much........but they probably knew yelling was about the size of it.  On the other hand, I knew I was going to get it good, whether it was being grounded or having to do extra chores or whatever.........if my parents raised their voices I was in deep trouble.  So maybe Obama needs to do the same thing!!

What’s been happening in your life?  Mine has been pretty boring.  Spent two weekends in the Berkshires back to back, one to meet with a rep from an auction house and then to go to my high school reunion.  We had a very small class--started with 68, 64 graduated, 7 have died and only about 23 of us went to the reunion.  As is often the case, the majority of us live out of some cases WAY out of town. Singapore, Arizona, New Mexico.  People who lived 20 minutes from the country club never even responded.  Their loss.  There were quite a few who never bothered to respond one way or the other and several we do not have current addresses for.  Many of us no longer have family living in the area so it is impossible, even with constant googling - to find some people.  We had a good time and some of my friends came back to the house and we sat around and talked til after 2:30AM and then a couple of women spent the night rather than have to drive late which made more sense.  All in all it was fun; in a strange way, a few of us are way better friends today than we were back then.  We have gotten to know each other so much better and truthfully, we - well they are, anyway - are much more interesting today then we were back in high school.

I no sooner arrived home then the auction house called to say they had a pick up close to my house up there (mom’s house) and could I meet them there last Thursday so they could pick up the things they are going to sell at auction.  So, I took more time off from work, turned around and went back up there.  I am tired!!  I think it is more emotional than anything else.

Anyone know anything about tick bites??  I am so stupid that I thought it was a blood blister so ignored it for a day - then something clicked and I realized what it was.  SO got rid of it.  It was about two weeks ago and have had a bunch of different advice.  Go to a doctor, don’t go unless you have symptoms, get a blood test, ask for antibiotics.  What to I did what I usually do.  Nothing!!  I am guessing it came in on the cat and since she is an outdoor cat and always cuddled in my lap when she is inside, it is not surprising.

We leave for my favorite vacation place very soon now and will be there for quite a while.  I am psyched!!  Watch someone will make an offer on the house the day before we leave and will want it emptied out by Labor Day and I will have to cancel the trip.  That would be SO bad.

OK enough of my nonsense, probably better if I had continued to NOT post anything!!

light rain

I thought maybe someone might be poking around here since the weather is awful.  Weekend has been really crappy so far--anyone in New England remember the long range forecast for this weekend?  Words like mild temps, sunshine, progressively getting nicer each day and so on.  Yeah, right.  Instead it has been getting progressively worse and colder.  But I am sure once the work week begins, it will be lovely.  Bitter?  Who me? Never!!

So, what is happening around here?  Apparently nothing.  I don’t think anyone has commented on anything in weeks.  I just don’t have Kate’s magic touch, that’s all!!

Speaking of Kate--did the lad graduate this year or is it next?  Time flies!!  If this year, then congratulations to both of you.  Wow!!

Am working on a questionnaire to be sent out to classmates of mine from high school.  We are having a reunion in July--a middle between two significant years reunion - and I absolutely refuse to write or acknowledge those years cause it is damn scary!!  I like to pretend it was just a short time ago and when I see the number it tells me I am in la-la land.  SO, anyway, I said I would do the questionnaire and get it out to everyone and a friend is going to put it all together into some sort of booklet.  But, I don’t want it to be cut and dried, am trying to make it humorous.  So, I am turning to you all.  Help me with some off the beaten path questions!!  If you were filling out one of these, what would you like to see on it??

I am going to go back and see if I can find the class predictions or whatever it was called.  It was something along the line of “ 20 years so and so will be doing...” I think mine said I would be a carhop on roller skates.  Yeah, well I did have a certain reputation back in high school.  ;) Of course, roller skates have given way to rollerblades and believe it or not, carhops are coming back into style.  We have one close by called Sonic.  My goddaughter went with friends, she told me she was going to something called a ‘carhop’ and afterward, she said it was no big deal. They bring your food to your car and you eat IN your car.  I laughed and said that’s what we all did back in the ‘old’ days.

There is a page on FaceBook called Plug the BP Oil Spill with Sarah Palin which is a riot.  There are over 192,000 members already and counting.  Lots of suggestions of other people to use as well.  One of whom is Dick Cheney.  Remember him?  Big mouth up until the oil spill, had lots of suggestions and criticisms of the current administration??  Yeah him.  So where is he now when the blame for much of this can be laid squarely at his doorstep.  Hmmm, funny how he has disappeared.  Must have gone back to that cave he was so fond of.

I did find something I want on that page and so now, This is on MY Christmas list!!

OK, I have a lot to do today so must say so long.  If you have any suggestions about my reunion questions, I would love to hear them!!

No Mas.......

Saturday, 9:22 pm

For weeks now I have been saying no mas; no, no, no, no more contributing to ANYONE for any reason.

We, like many people, are inundated with phone calls and snail mail from everyone and their brother - some for good causes, many for things I would never contribute to.  It has gotten so bad, that I have reached my limit of phone calls I can block on our house phone.  I have to wait a few weeks, then clear them all out and start over.  It takes about 3 days to fill it up.  Anyway, I have had it, am fed up and so have told Joe that either we find a way to contribute anonymously or we do not contribute at all.  Tonight he handed me this article Are charities spying on you to read.  It pretty much spells out exactly why we are getting harassed 7 days a week starting at 7:30AM and often ending somewhere around 9PM.

If the calls are for Joe, I have been saying, “he does not live here anymore and stop calling me.” If they are for me, he is to do the same or I say that “I am out of town on business.” Pain in the ass, we should not have to do this.  I have enough address labels to stick on 5000 pieces of mail and at last count had something like 8 calendars.  All with lovely flowers, birds etc.  But c’mon, how many of those suckers can you use.  Our local thrift shop is the recipient of those, the ugly greeting cards and the endless notepads.  STOP IT.

So, follow the link, read the article and let me know if it disgusts you as much as it does me.
