light snow, mist

I couldn’t take the bright pink and turquoise any longer. Back to the foxes we go.

I tweaked the sidebar a bit. The additions will probably slow the loading time down to a crawl, but we’ll give it a try. And I opened a twitter account so there is no excuse for me to completely disappear for weeks on end. Twittering/tweeting/whatevering is kind of entertaining.

Anyway. More tomorrow. Is there anyone left who stops by to read this thing?

Some changes

Alrighty. The blog got a facelift. The skins are gone (they were getting bloated). The sidebar is gone (for the time being). And gone are most of the gizmos and half a dozen behind the scenes scripts. I was tired of black and white. I needed some color. And a bit of simplicity. In internet terms, this is probably a bit retro, but I like the textures.

Depending on your graphics card and monitor, this template can range from rather subdued greens and taupes to eye popping greens and yellows. Pink, too. I put it together on my laptop and everything was subdued pastels. When I gave it a test drive on the desktop computer (which decided to work today), the eye popping colors made themselves known. I like both the subdued and more vibrant colors, so what you see is what you get.

The much abbreviated menu is now at the bottom of the blog. The blog title at the top of the page is now clickable to take you back to the front page from wherever you may wander.

Guess that’s about it. If you find anything that doesn’t work, let me know.

I’m going to be rearranging and changing some things around here in the next several hours. I expect that some things might be broken for a while and heaven knows what the end result will be. Consider it an adventure!

Technical glitch

mostly cloudy

I noticed earlier that my referral logs have suddenly started returning an odd web address sequence. It’s something to do with the kiva.org banner on the sidebar. Now, rather than taking a visitor to the kiva site, it redirects to my main blog page. I haven’t done anything differently. In fact, the coding for the banner is built into the one line script that kiva provides. There’s no tinkering to be done with it...so I surmise that the glitch must be on their end someplace. I don’t understand why, when you hover your mouse over the banner, the kiva.org part of the address is stripped out and replace with ciderpresshill.com. In the meantime, I’ve added a direct link to the kiva.org site beneath the banner.

Gravatar issues

For the time being, I’ve suspended the use of gravatars on this site. The gravatar web site seems to be experiencing major difficulties getting some new implementations up and running. I think I’ll avoid using the service until the problems are ironed out. Broken gravatars lead to slow loading pages and we might as well avoid that when possible. For the time being, comments will be ‘decorated’ with little fox images, with the hope that gravatar will be fixed sooner or later. I am quite fond of that service, but not at the expense of my site’s performance. So...hope they get it fixed soon.

scattered clouds

Late Saturday night or in the wee hours of Sunday morning, my blog may be inaccessible for a while. I know there are a few of you who are regular visitors in the overnight (EST) hours, so don’t be concerned. All will be well. My wonderful hosts at pmachine hosting will be migrating my site to a server at their new data center, which will require shutting down the server I’m now on and propagating this site on a new one. I’m told that this process may take a few hours. Most everyone will probably never notice, but a few of you who visit overnight will probably find a message that the site is offline. When you see me again on Sunday, things in the background will be all shiny new. Sort of like moving into a brand new house without having to lift a finger. smile
