Rachel Maddow to Scott Brown

The popular liberal TV host came out swinging on Friday against the new senator from Massachusetts, Scott Brown, who has suggested in a fund-raising letter that Maddow will run against him in 2012. “I’m not running against Scott Brown … It’s just not true. Honestly. I swear. No, really,” Maddow said in the Friday’s Boston Globe.Maddow to Brown: Wrong,
And so you would think Senator Brown would issue an immediate apology and certainly refund any and all monies he has raised based on his bogus letter stating she is running against him in 2012. But as of now, as far as I know, nothing other than more bullcrap from him and his camp. Remember when he ran for Senator Kennedy’s seat--he was an independent and he would vote his own conscience and according to how his constituents wanted him to vote. Yeah, and so lots of independent voters in Massachusetts drank the kool-aid and voted for him. So, first thing he signs a contract to write a book. A book? On what??? How his daughter was on American Idol? About his wife who works for a local tv network? About his truck? I mean really, what could be interesting about his life? He has done nothing so far. There is no mystery whatsoever about the hows and whys he was elected. People are hungry for change, he was a fresh face (and it might have helped that he did pose nude back in his 20’s), he promised to be an INDEPENDENT if elected and not blindly follow the party line. Riiiggggggght. Did that real well, didn’t he. He is a sheep in an independent’s clothing.
The Democrats had Martha Coakley as his opponent. While she has done an admirable job in Massachusetts, she was about the poorest choice of candidate we could have had. I am all for more women in politics, but they have to be the right woman--just anyone won’t do and women in Massachusetts do not do real well--on either side of the aisle. I did not vote for Brown, although I truly hoped he was what he said he was. I held my nose and voted for Coakley. And for all of you who do not live here and think Brown is the second coming, let me tell you something--if Michael Capuano had been the Dems candidate, I think you would have seen a totally different result. Truly. He would have run circles around Brown and shown him for what he really is....just another empty shirt. I don’t think he is particularly bright, I think his aw shucks demeanor is a crock of *** and if the right person runs against him in 2012 he will be toast. He knows it or else would not be already writing a book.
But this thing with Maddow is insane. Yes there was a page on FB saying she should run--hell, I even became a fan. But she never once indicated she would even consider it. I guess everything in politics is fair game…

Renee Toth had a good article in the Boston Globe this weekend that is - in my humble opinion - worth reading...AT THE end of January, when all of Washington was wailing that Scott Brown’s election to the US Senate meant a stake in the heart of health care reform, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference and outlined her plan for the bill. “You go through the gate,’’ she said. “If the gate’s closed you go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole-vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in. But we are going to get health care reform passed for the American people.’’ The Power of Pelosi

You see, I was afraid that I was going to have to make a little speech this afternoon so was playing around with words. Then in the middle got the call I was off the hook. someone else would. Yay, thank goodness. So, now we all know, I AM a dingbat!!

Palm Sunday and Easter used to be in warm weather, weren’t they? Back when I actually went to church and did all those sorts of things. Let’s see that would have been when I was around 10! And Easter Bonnets and gloves and a new dress was the order of the day. I have a picture of myself with my two friends all dressed up in our Easter Sunday outfits--shall have to find it and post on my facebook page. Good for a laugh or two.
So, good morning! Man is it cold out, nothing springlike about today so far. We went to dinner at a favorite place last night - Siro’s at Quincy Bay Marina - with friends and while the food was, as always, good, the margaritas were spectacular, I am not sure it is the greatest place to go when the temps are in the 30’s. Walking along the boardwalk was COLD. We usually go several times in the summer and maybe the fall, have never gone in the winter. Now I know why!!
Today’s posts are just a hodgepodge--yeah, I hear you, so what else is new. But still not in the mood to get into anything heavy or political. Am sitting here listening to my usual Sunday morning fare--’Brunch at the River’ on 92.5, it has become my Sunday morning pleasure. Have a deal with my husband, he loves the Sunday morning political shows (and sometimes I enjoy them too, but not ALL morning), so he stays upstairs and watches them until 10 or so, and I get to listen to music, then he comes down, turns on my TV in the kitchen and I go to the headphones and listen online. Works for both of us.
Just read that Kathleen Turner (thanks Linkmeister) is doing a one-woman show as Molly Ivins in Philadelphia. Wonder if they will bring it to Boston. I miss Molly Ivins--I do not think there is another one out there like her that was not afraid to say what she thought. And Ann Coulter does not even come close, she is just poison. Hate her.
If you are NOT into Sarah Palin (and I am most assuredly not), you might enjoy poking around this Palingates. Full of information that, if true, and I have to believe (or want to!) it is true, then I do not understand why we do not hear more about it. There are parts that will enrage you, parts that will make you shake your head, parts that will amuse you and parts that will make you say, “WTF”? Yeah, they will.
And, I read this piece of bizarre news yesterday--someone sent it to me, I think it came from a site called--appropriately--bizarre news: "An ‘exercise’ at a middle school in Worcestershire [England] began when pupils heard that there was a gun in the school. Five minutes later the alarm bell sounded and more than 300 were sent outside and saw three teachers running across the field. They saw a “gunman” in the distance and heard what sounded like gunfire before seeing one of the teachers fall to the ground. It was all part of a big role-playing scenario designed to teach the children about forensic science, but by the time teachers got the kids all back in the school’s auditorium to explain everything, many of them were already frightened, crying and some even getting sick in the bathrooms. Which is ridiculous! Why should witnessing a brutal murder frighten ten and eleven-year-olds to the point of being sick? Anyway, parents complained, understandably, and in response the school promised that in the future they will tone down their mock murders.” Really?! Maybe this is how Englishmen came by that famous ‘stiff upper lip.’
Ever type something and then look at the screen and shake your head in puzzlement? Well, I was writing something yesterday and usually use the font, Comic Sans something or other, and thought I had clicked on that before I started typing. So I finished what I was doing, only a paragraph or two - and yes, I was looking DOWN at the keyboard not at the screen - looked up and was like WHAT? Somehow, and do not even try to figure out how - I had clicked on WINGDINGS - yeah, go ahead try it - and so I had two paragraphs of cute little characters bearing absolutely no relationship to words any of us would recognize. Easy enough to fix but did make me chuckle. So typical............
OK, I have procrastinated enough, have to make some “sweets” to take to a political reception today I am co-hosting (with several others) for Niki Tsongas. If nothing else, it gets me out of making dinner tonight since it goes until 6 or so!!
Have a wonderful Sunday, hope it is warm somewhere!!

Coffee anyone? Good, hot and made with freshly ground coffeebeans - is that one word or two? Oh no, Steve will be after me if it is wrong!! My friend Carol in Hawaii keeps me well supplied with Kona coffee so that is what Sister MM is serving this morning!! Now if I had any ambition, I would have made something wonderful to go with it. But cinnamon-raisin bread from Panera’s will have to suffice!!
Since it is the weekend, I figure not much point to getting into anything really important or heavy or political or my usual rants; so today will focus on wherever my mind takes me. Anyone OLD enough to remember an exercise called taking your pencil for a walk--well that is kinda how my mind works.
25 not so spring-like degrees right now--but lots of bright sunshine and blue sky so one gets the illusion it is a lot nicer out there than it really is--combined with Hawaiian coffee, I can almost imagine myself on the lanai in Lanikai. Almost people, not completely!! But come August, I will be there for three wonderful weeks. Cannot wait!!
However, the Goldfinches are flocking the feeders and their feathers are definitely showing more yellow than olive green so that has to be a good sign!! Amazing how the birdsongs change this time of year. They sing year round but today it is a cheery, spring sort of sound. Perhaps they know something we don’t!
Kate, I noticed on your page that you have pictures of New Orleans. We are going there for a week--leaving Sunday next (Easter Sunday morning) and coming back the following Sunday. Anyone have any suggestions? Seems as though all of our friends, well the ones we play with anyway, have spent all or most of the winter months in places other than New England, so decided we deserved a week away. Maybe when we really retire and are as old as our friends (LOL) we will stay away longer, but for now this will have to do. I have never been to NO and am so looking forward to it. Joe has been there on business I guess. I have been getting suggestions from lots of people and am keeping a list. We are staying at the Hilton-New Orleans Riverside right on the edge (I think) of the French Quarter and with a walk through into Harrah’s. There is a method to my madness!! My husband is one of those who MUST go to the Health Club every day so while he is doing his thing, I shall be doing mine...at the Casino! It will be new and different and most importantly, should be warm!!
OK, have I bored you all thoroughly yet? I hope not. What’s on for the weekend? Today I should be home cleaning my house, but am thinking it might be more fun to shop for a new outfit (or 3) for our trip. Tonight going to dinner with two of our favorite people (who just returned from 3 months away) and then tomorrow somehow I managed to agree to co-host.co-sponsor a reception for Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, our rep for the 5th Congressional District. Don’t ask me why I get into these things, I just do. “Just a girl who can’t say no...”
Time to read the paper so will end this. I do want to say thank you for the comments you left yesterday. I do appreciate it. Tomorrow I might have something marginally more interesting than today. I’ll try!! Maybe I will be able to discuss - calmly and rationally - the latest on the newest Senator from Massachusetts, the gutless wonder, Scott Brown. I did have some high hopes for him as did so many people who actually bought into his ‘aw shucks, I’m really just an independent who happens to be a registered Republican’ bullcrap. And have you heard--he has sent out fundraising letters asking--no begging - for money cause Rachel Maddow is running against him. Only hitch in that plan is that she is NOT RUNNING FOR ANYTHING. OK, enough for now, I said calmly and rationally so will table this for today....
Another cup anyone??
Ciao!!

Without liberals, there would be no modern America, just a Nazi satelite state. Liberals weak on defense? Liberals created America’s defense. The conservatives only need vets at election time. It is time to stop looking for an accomodation with the right. They want none for us. They want to win, at any price. So, you have a choice: be a fighting liberal or sit quietly. I know what I am, what are you? I’m a fighting liberal This was written in ‘03 and is even truer today. Thanks to Linkmeister for pointing me in the direction.
I posted this on my facebook page and to date there have been 26 comments. A record for me!! Most from like minded friends, a couple from a holy roller that is allowed to post ONLY because he provides all of us with a great deal of amusement and keeps us busy thinking of new ways to make him froth at the mouth. He is totally rabid......after all, he is convinced the word of authority and the only one, except God, of course, in this world is Rush--you know, he of the smelly cigar who must be making his way to Costa Rica for his healthcare as I write. After all that IS what he said, isn’t it? Anyway, if you have the time read this article, I hope it reaches out and grabs you the same way it did me.
PS--this is the 4th time I have tried to post this. Maybe it is time I read Kate’s directions instead of trying to wing it on my own.
