mostly sunny

Today is a very hot day. The mercury stands at about 92°, which inspires many of the local young ladies to expose a lot of limbs. This, of course, is a very happy occasion for the lads of all ages.

This afternoon, I stopped by my bank and observed a college age lad doing some of the bank’s landscaping care. His particular duty was watering the flowers in the strip between the bank and the parking lot, which were, on the whole, looking mighty peaked. He looked pretty bored.

On my way out of the bank, I glanced out the door and observed two young women, about the same age as the landscaper lad, standing by a little red convertible, talking, and seemingly oblivious to him. The lad was, of course, nothing less than obviously staring at them with their flowing blonde tresses and long, lonnnng tanned legs and halter tops that revealed slightly more than they hid, in a tasteful sort of way. And while he was staring at them, his water hose was was doing a mighty fine job of watering the parking lot, missing the flowers by a good six feet.

One of the young ladies turned her head to look at him, finally, and a little smile crept across her face. She turned to her friend and said something. Her friend turned to look at the lad and she burst out laughing. Oh the cruelty.

That poor boy. He turned all shades of red and you could just feel the burn.

I thought that was probably a good moment to step out of the bank and walk between them. When I did, the girls climbed in their car and drove away. The lad was still doing a slow roast, but I nodded to him and climbed in my car without cracking a smile. Better just to leave it alone. He went back to watering the flowers. I have a feeling he won’t be bothered by boredom for a while. No, that little incident is good to last the rest of the afternoon. He will probably still be blushing tomorrow every time he thinks about it, kicking himself all over the place for being caught out like that.

I was well around the corner and out of his sight before I burst out laughing. Just could not help it.
