When I came in the house a while ago, my cell phone was blinking—indicating a text message. I don’t text message very often and the only person who texts me is the lad. And that’s only to say “Am alive Luv u.” That’s sort of what I expected to see, not a text message from Sprint asking me what I am doing to Go Green with a link to hit to go get tips on how to get green. On my dime, of course. Doggone it. There’s something wrong with turning Earth Day into yet another way to make a buck. That really irked me.

For the first time in A Long Time, the outside temperature is 1.5° warmer than the inside temperature. Imagine that! We’re not talking tropical weather, by any means, but I’ll take 66.6° and like it. The wind is calm, currently, so not sure how long this state of affairs will last. Gotta love the weather report: The beautiful weather enjoyed Thursday from Florida to New England will continue today as high pressure holds strong. Temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s in most locations, with the exception being coastal areas where an onshore wind will result in drastically cooler highs. I’m not too keen on that word drastically.

It’s still warm enough to put my little vegetable seedlings outside today. They are inside a translucent rubbermaid tub so that they’re protected from the breeze and, when the sun hits them later, the translucent cover will protect them from the burning rays. I leave the lid ajar so that they don’t cook. It’s kind of like a mini cold frame and works really well. I’ve been doing this for a couple of days now and the baby plants have grown like weeds. And, when I bring them inside at night, the container protects the seedlings from Abbie’s nibbling ways. She sampled a couple of the tomato plants, so I had to think what to do to protect the rest. This works.

On the bird front, I think the hummingbirds are back. I hung the hummingbird feeder out front a few days ago and noticed, yesterday morning, that the nectar had dropped about a half an inch. This morning it was down another half inch. I haven’t seen a hummer yet, but something is definitely sipping from the feeder. They haven’t shown up while I’m watching, so I can’t verify that there is an actual hummingbird yet. I guess they’re shy.
