Today is a spring day. Currently the temperature stands at 64° and it was even a couple of degrees warmer around noon. I’ve thrown open all the doors and windows to usher this beautiful warm fresh air into the house. Of course, I could point out that a little sunshine would have been nice, but that would be looking a gift horse in the mouth. I need more days like this.

The birds have been singing their spring songs all day. The robins have been singing for rain. They may get some. I’m sure they were all talkative yesterday, too, but it’s hard to hear them with the windows and doors all tightly latched. But today has been different. The birds have been really active and haunting the place for seed. I’ve refilled the feeders twice today, so far.

And the trees have noticed the warmth, too. Since yesterday, the buds on the neighborhood trees have doubled in size. And the weeping willow tree across the street has turned a vibrant spring green. Some of the other trees have acquired that rosy brown cast they get before bursting into leaf. It won’t be too long now.

The surest sign of all, though, has been the fairly steady procession of cars and trucks hauling boats up the street today. We’re not talking little boats, either. They’ll be in the water by the weekend, I’ll bet, and the harbor will start to look populated again.

I suppose it might be greedy to now ask for a 70° day and probably unrealistic. We’re supposed to have more snow over the weekend. Maybe today will have made it a little easier to put up with that.

For the people to south of us, the ruby-throated hummingbirds are arriving. Check out the Hummingbird Migration Map to see where they are. They should be in my backyard within the next month. Can’t wait!!
