We had a spring-ish sort of day today. The temps reached the low 50s and it almost felt warmer outside than inside. Actually, it was pretty close. Unfortunately, the sun didn’t shine very much, so the house didn’t heat up. What do do. On a day like this it’s dumb to start a fire in the stove. I’d roast myself out of here in no time. That’s a waste of wood. But it was cold in here and despite 4 layers of clothing, my teeth were on the verge of chattering.

I finally decided to do some baking. The oven heated the place up quite nicely and I guess that’s a pretty good use of natural gas. Kind of twofer. I have baked goods and the house is now tolerably warm. Oh, I baked a few loaves of quick breads. More than I can consume in a week, but a friend of mine offered her freezer. And she gets a fresh loaf of cranberry bread, in the bargain.

While out and about a while ago, I observed that approximately 99.9% of the yards in town have no snow left on them. There were a number of people out working in their yards today. Doing things like raking up winter debris and turning soil in their flower beds.

Then I came home to the the .1% neighborhood which still has snow covering our yards. On one side of the street, anyway. My side of the street. My yard is still covered with snow. Rather a lot of it. There is no yard work to be done around here. The only thing I could rake is snow. I think Mother Nature is playing with my head.
