light rain

In the last day a lot of rain has moved through the state. Most of it passed us by and clobbered the south shore. Now the remnants of Ophelia are starting to move in and, once again, we’re threatened with torrential (and prolonged) rains. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the hill behind the house to see if the tons of new soil, that the guy up there had hauled in to extend his yard out over the edge of the hill, is going to stay put. We had a brief torrent earlier today and there was a bit of soil slippage. At least he had the contractors move the heavy caterpillar machine away from the edge at quittin’ time today. With luck, I won’t wake up tomorrow morning to find a ton of new soil washed up against my fence...or a flood in the basement.

Oh yeah, there was some good news today. The replacement windows for the front of the house are going to be about $600 less expensive than I’d estimated. That’s the kind of news I like! Still not sure when the project is going to get under motion, but it should be within the next two to three weeks.

light rain

I am just plain disenchanted with internet providers. It doesn’t seem to me that I’m that difficult to please, but I really do object to being scammed.

This month’s Verizon bill says my DSL package jumped in price. The middle tier seems to have been eliminated. The one that said I was paying for up to 1.5 Mbps DSL speed since that’s all I’m provisioned for. Even at that, it’s an extraordinary day when I can even break 800 kbps. For the most part, I don’t mind. It’s usually fast enough for my needs.

But, now I’m paying the same monthly fee as those fortunate people who get 3.0 Mbps DSL speeds even though I’m only provisioned for half that and only get half what I’m provisioned for.

Is that fair? Hell, no.

I’ve argued until I’m purple and it does no good. Take it or leave it, basically.

I hate that attitude.
